Maine Forest Products Council applauds LP Building Solutions’ $400 million expansion announcement

Today it was announced that Maine Forest Products Council member LP Building Solutions will invest $400 million to expand the Houlton Facility. Below is a quote by Pat Strauch, Executive Director of the Maine Forest Products Council. LP Building Solutions held a grand re-opening of the facility as the first SmartSide manufacturer on the east coast on August 31. For this $150 million investment, the Council recently awarded LP Building Solutions with the organization’s 2022 Manufacturer of the Year award at its annual meeting in September.

“LP Building Solutions has dedicated tremendous resources this year to refurbish the Houlton Facility to become the first manufacturer of the innovative SmartSide product on the east coast, and now to expand the facility. This level of investment demonstrates a great confidence in Maine’s forest industry, in the sustainability of our working forests and above all, in our workforce. The Maine Forest Products Council applauds LP Building Solutions’ planned $400 million expansion. The 100 jobs created at the mill, combined with the increased volume of timber purchasing, will be beneficial for Aroostook County and the forest products industry as a whole.”
